Today, while walking back to the staff room, I was considering on quitting the workforce. I was thinking on submitting my resignation letter anytime soon. I was feeling so unmotivated and demoralized after my CME class.
If last year I felt that they were punishing me for being pregnant and having a baby, this year, I am feeling that they are punishing my department for having an extra pair of hands in the department. This year…I have 4 ML classes only. BUT….I have 3 CME classes and 1 IDPW class. The reason is, since our adjunct cannot teach other subjects, we, the other ML teachers have to teach other subjects as we are bilingual.
For the second time I am forced into doing something I do not want. For the second time I am forced into something I do not love.
It is important to do what you want. It is important to do what you love. This is because, if you do what you love, you put your heart into it. You look forward for each day. You persevere even though you are faced with challenges. You fight on and your fire remains burning. You are happy and satisfied at what you are doing.
However, if you do not like or love what you do, you get demoralized easily when small challenges come. You whine everyday even though the task is not tough. You drag yourself to do the task. You dread doing it. You just place a barrier around yourself and close yourself up. Importantly, you are not happy.
I know others went through worse but to me…happiness is very important. It is because in my line, if you are not happy doing something, it shows and the students know and respond appropriately. I pity the students. I am so sorry but I can’t give my best as I am not happy doing it.
And suddenly, my disheartened feeling was gone as images of my ML students flashed through my mind especially my sec 4s. When I remembered how they tried to finish my assignments on time, the questions they asked when they were in doubt, the “OOOOOHH”s and “AAAAHHH”s I got when they understood my lesson and the smiles I received when they are satisfied with my lesson, my mood suddenly changed.
I bet they are the ones who kept me going despite these trying times. They are the ones who give me the strength to go on. They are the ones causing me to say, “Maybe I should stay a little longer…”
So it is important to do what you love. You are more passionate, dedicated and also HAPPY.
